Dental implants are a safe and predictable way to replace one or more missing teeth and prevent the loss of bone and gums that takes place after tooth loss. Bite, chew, laugh, and smile with confidence!
The first step in the dental implant process is the evaluation of the case, by a radiographic and clinical exam. This is followed by the development of an individual treatment plan.
Patients who have a strong bone density of the jaw are considered good candidates for a dental implant.
Some patient may need a bone graft procedure if the jaw bone is not enough dense to receive an implant. The bone graft procedure may be completed during or before the implant placement.
Some other patient may not qualify for a dental implant but may be eligible for alternative treatments such as fixed bridges or removable partial dentures.
If you are qualifying candidate for implants there will be several visits to the dental office to complete the implant treatment.
The dental implant must fuse to the Jawbone prior to teeth being connected to them. This may take several weeks or a few months depending on the type of implant, bone density, and medical history. Once the implant has bonded to the jawbone, an adapter will be connected to the implant called abutment. The abutment connects the implant to the replacement tooth or teeth whether a single crown or to a set of dentures.
